¶ Pim Fortuyn was a professor at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He became known as the leader of Leefbaar Nederland and after his resignation due to controversial statements, of his own party Lijst Pim Fortuyn (LPF). Nine days before the elections (which he would win posthumously) he was murdered by Volkert van der Graaf after a radio performance in Hilversum. It was the first political murder in the Netherlands since the attack on William of Orange in 1584.

The five-part drama series Het jaar van Fortuyn (in which a dramatized version is given of the election battle between Fortuyn and Ad Melkert in the run-up to the 2002 parliamentary elections) was broadcasted in 2022. The role of Fortuyn was played by Jeroen Spitzenberger. - Wikipedia.
