Theo van Gogh - De weldoener - Amsterdam - CIC - 1988 - 1st edition - [242] pp - Paperback - 13,5 x 21 cm. - Design: Ger van Wulften.

Collection of columns, short stories and poisonous (but always with a sense of humor) letters and correspondence to i.a. Leon de Winter, Theo Sontrop and Fonds voor de Nederlandse Film [the Dutch Film Fund]. Cover illustration: Eric Schreurs. Author photo: Steye Raviez.

This copy was signed by Theo van Gogh (1957-2004) in blue ballpoint pen on the title page with the dedication: "Voor Mevrouw Vriesekoop, de aantrekkelijkste /advocaat die ik ken [...]". Laid in is an A4 sheet of paper with the name 'Adrienne' in Van Gogh's handwriting and a typed Sinterklaas poem (not by Van Gogh) on the reverse.

¶ Theo (related to the painter Vincent van Gogh) never hid his opinions—as he also did not in this book. On November 2, 2004, the controversial filmmaker was murdered for this reason by the Muslim extremist Mohammed B. This is an original manuscript by one of the most prominent advocates of freedom of expression from the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
