The English translation of the war chronicle Het bittere kruid (1957). Illustrated with black and white drawings by the Groningen artist Herman Dijkstra (1904-1976). Translated from the Dutch by Roy Edwards.

¶ Hardcover first UK edition. The debut of Marga Minco (pseudonym of Sara Menco, 1920-2023) is, together with Anne Frank's Diary, regarded as a classic from the European literature about World War II. [Cf. Jessica Voeten, Een kleine documentatie Fig. 6].

This copy with a pasted strip of paper on the title page with the dedication 'To Gary Pucsifor' and SIGNATURE of Marga Minco. Gary himself put his name on the half-title page. The rare dust jacket has been skillfully restored by master bookbinder Hans Zegveld and is now protected in acid-free transparent Brodart cover.
