Overview of the events in Dutch politics from the cabinet De Kempenaer / Donker Curtius in 1849 to the Ministry Van Lynden 1883. Also contains chapters on colonial politics (mainly concerning the Dutch East Indies) since 1848 and (in part 2) from 1866 to 1882. Two-volume standard work in contemporary half-leather bindings with marbled paper covers and gilt title and five raised bands on the spine.

¶ Mr. Wilco Julius van Welderen Baron Rengers (1835-1916) was mayor of Leeuwarden and was seen as a modest and moderate Frisian liberal Member of Parliament from a noble family in Groningen. He is best known as a parliamentary historian. Revised reprints of this work appeared until the 1950s.
