¶ Elvgren began painting beautiful young women in sexy poses for Louis F. Dow calendars in 1937, but he is best known for his work for Brown & Bigelow (1940-1972). During World War II, his designs were used as "nose art" on American military aircraft. Models included Donna Reed, Barbara Hale, Arlene Dahl, Lola Albright and Kim Novak.
