Reprint of the photobook by Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990) originally published by De Bezige Bij in 1956; a 'photo novel' about the adventures of the girl "Ann" (= Vali Myers) in the bars and cafes of Paris. Hardback edition.
¶ The book was controversial at the time of release, but today it is considered one of the 101 best photo books of the 20th century. Cf. Boom p. 58; Roth p. 146 "a beat generation update of Brassaï" and Parr / Badger I p. 245: "the level of the book is raised by the contribution of the designer, Jurriaan Schrofer."
