The second photo book by the Dutch top photographer Ed van der Elsken (1925-1990); the reflection of a stay in the interior of Central Africa. Illustrated in black and white and (some in) COLOUR. Hardcover first edition.

The book was issued with a loose stapled text booklet containing elaborations of interviews that journalist Jan Vrijman (1925-1997) recorded on audio tape with the photographer. The book itself has no text (not even an imprint) other than the title. An English, French, German and South African version was published almost simultaneously.

¶ Ba-ga-ra means Buffalo. Van der Elsken lived for three months between the black population and the (few) white immigrants. He met black primitives and intellectuals, white humanists and colonialists, hunters and killers. Bagara presents the photo report of these encounters.
