Tajiri was of Japanese descent and was imprisoned in America during World War II. He left the US in 1948 and came to the Netherlands via Paris (studying with Ossip Zadkine) with the Arnhem sculptress Ferdi Jansen. He exhibited with the Cobra group in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1949.
