¶ Long before The Beatles, Walter Crane was born in Liverpool (UK). He made paintings, illustrations, children's books, ceramic tiles and other decorative art, influenced by the movement of Pre-Raphaelism. His book Claims of Decorative Art (1892) became a handbook for book innovation and (in the Netherlands) for 'Nieuwe Kunst' (the Dutch version of 'Art Nouveau').
