[Militaria] - Cannonball - [Netherlands] - [16th century] - Iron ball - Ø 14 cm.

Condition: Good.

Original antique cannonball from the Eighty Years' War. The massive weaponry has been used and bears traces of the impact it once made. Weight is approx. 10 KG.

¶ The exact origin is unknown, but these types of round shots were often found in the Bommelerwaard, where the Spaniards besieged the fortified city of Zaltbommel in 1599. The range of such projectiles at the time was 2 to 5 kilometers. The modern cannon was invented in Italy around 1325, after gunpowder was brought to Europe from China by explorers.
