Third novel by the Book Week author Marianne Philips (1886-1951). The first edition appeared in 1934; this is the hardcover sixth edition (This book was issued with a dust jacket with photo-montage by Frans Dupont).
Philips wrote the 1950 'boekenweekgeschenk': 'De zaak Beukenoot'. From 1951 to 1975, a literary prize (established by her widower) bearing her name was awarded annually: the Marianne Philips-prijs. Her oeuvre is small but still a challenge to bring together in early editions.
