Condition: Good - see description below.

"Doctor Strange-esque" textbook by James Herbert Brennan (1940-) describing the four main 'Entrances to the Astral Plane': the 5 Tattva Symbols; the Tarot; the Kabbalah and the Eastern hexagrams of the I Ching (in which hypnosis can sometimes play a key role). With concentration and visualization exercises that one must master before undertaking an astral journey. Text in English. Hardback first edition.

¶ This copy (with battered dust jacket) comes from the archive of Simon Vinkenoog (1928-2009) with his signature and many notes), who translated the book into Dutch. Enclosed is the 3rd edition of that translation with a loosely inlaid copy of a strict letter about translation rights from SV on BRES letterhead to the publisher Christian Vandekerkhove).

Also added are two typewritten letters from Thorsons Publishers LTD about Brennan to SV; two carbon copies of SV's answer thereto; two copies of letters from SV to Brennan: the first dated September 16, 1973 in which Vinkenoog introduces himself ("I am a writer of national renown (!)" and offers to take care of the Dutch translation of Astral Doorways; the second letter (Nov. 1974) announces the release of the translation.

Both letters were promptly answered by the Irish writer (dated September 28, 1973 and November 1974 respectively) who was "delighted" with the proposal from Vinkenoog whom he could also offer the necessary tips and introduction to the 'occult inner circle' of Ireland. Both letters typed on one side and SIGNED by J.H. 'Herbie' Brennan.
