¶ Eva Hesse was born in Hamburg, into a Jewish family that emigrated to New York in 1939. There she graduated from the New York School of Industrial Art. In the early 1960s, she took part in a happening in Woodstock with her husband Tom Doyle. Hesse is associated with postminimalism, more specifically with the anti-form movement. She succumbed to a brain tumor in 1970, aged 34.
