[J.G. van Ginkel] - Gezigt op de Groote Markt te Arnhem - [No pl.] - [Steendrukkerij C.W. Mieling] - [c. 1855] - Lithography on paper in wooden frame - 68 x 58,5 cm.
Condition: This copy is fragile as it is (tanned and cracks on the edges), professionally (minimally) restored and framed in acid-free linen mat and distinguished wooden frame, protected behind museum glass.
Large print (lithograph, 51 x 38 cm) with a view of the Market and the large church of the Gelderland capital. Dating according to the Gelders Archief between 1848-1868). Prints of this kind were sold separately as souvenirs in the 19th century. Very rare engraved masterpiece.
¶ Beautiful city view, printed in a light blue tone. In the foreground gentlemen with top hats (one on horseback) and furthermore some groups of 'Arnhemmers', some ladies, a soldier. Almost all of the monumental buildings were destroyed in the Second World War, but here is a good impression of the original state of the first Eusebius Church. Visible on the right is the Palace of Justice, vaguely in the middle we see the contours of the Maarten van Rossumhuis (Duivelshuis) and on the left corner the 'De Waag' building.
