Ed Ruel - Zwarte Oogen. Russische Romance. Arr. Ed Ruel; Tekst: Ferry - Amsterdam - B.H. Smit - [c. 1926] - 1st edition - [4] pp. - Paper wrappers - 26,5 x 34,5 cm.

Condition: Good - with small signature on the cover.

Musical notation for piano with arrangement by Ed Ruel and Dutch text by 'Ferry'. Beautiful cover with portrait drawing of a dark woman and Art Deco lettering. On the backside "proeven van aardige nieuwe liedjes"(including 'Hallo, hallo hier is de K.R.O.' en 'Zigeuner, wie du spielt keiner').

The draftsman is unknown and nothing can be found about the composer Ed Ruel and the Dutch translator 'Ferry'. It may be a (very free) adaptation of Ochi tsjornye, a Russian song from the 19th century, written by the Ukrainian writer Yevgen Hrebinka.

¶ Not in NCC. The collection of street songs of the Meertens Institute contains a handbill with these lyrics, apparently printed in the crisis years of the 1930s for poor unemployed people to peddle from door to door.
