Second collection of poems by the Hungarian poet Gizela-Zsuzsánna Ritschel (1869-1942). Printed on thick handmade paper. Plain softcover edition.

¶ Giza came to the Netherlands as a circus artist in 1896. She accidentally ended up on the lap of merchant-writer Bas Veth (1860-1922) during a train journey and would live with him for eight years but the couple never married. The 'Tachtigers' were charmed by her poetry; Frederik van Eeden helped her with the publication of her first collection 'Verzen' (1901). Gerrit Komrij calls her 'the Mother of the Sunday poets' (in Verzonken Boeken p. 138).

This copy was provided by Giza with an inscription 'Voor Riek Juveen (?) / [SIGNATURE] / Voorburg (?) / 30 Juni 1929'. The ink used (a dip pen) makes it a bit difficult to read.
