¶ Theodoric the Great (Pannonia, c. 451 - Ravenna, AD 526) was king of the Ostrogoths and ruled over part of Italy. He tried to assimilate the Roman population into his own originally Germanic people, but this failed because the Romans were far in the majority compared to the small upper class Gothic rulers. He was also known as 'Diederik van Bern' (named after his summer residence Verona). - Wikipedia.
